What did the other children do to Ramon that was mean?
They pinched him,  they took his food, they whispered about him,  they didn’t play with him, and they didn’t pick him to be on a team.

How did Ramon feel when the children were mean to him?
He felt sad.

What did Ramon finally do?
He told the children to stop being mean to him.

What are some other things Ramon could do?
He could tell the teacher or his parents. He could try to make a friend with someone nice.

What is the right way to treat other people?
You should treat other people the same way you want to be treated.

If there is a new child at school, what can you do that is nice?
You can introduce yourself. You can offer to be his or her partner. You can eat lunch with him or her. You can play with him or her. You can also ask new children if they need help. If you think other children are being mean to the new child, you should always tell the teacher or another grown-up.

Figuring out what to do:

Sometimes children are mean to other children. Sometimes grown-ups say that another child is bullying another one when they are mean.  Can you think of a time when you or someone you know were mean to another child?  What can you or that person do differently next time?

Understanding how to be a good friend:

Here are some things that children do sometimes. What is the right thing to do?

Roz and Luis are playing in the playground. Maria wants to play with them. What should Roz and Luis do?

a. Ask Maria to come play with them.
b. Run away from Maria and not play with her.
c. Charlie sees that Mark and some other boys are grabbing John’s backpack and trying to throw it in the mud. What should Charlie do?
d. Call a grown-up for help.
e. Pretend he doesn’t see anything.

Ralph hears Nikita and Juana whispering mean things about him. What should he do?

a. Tell them it’s mean to do that.
b. Say nothing.
c. Tell a grown-up.

There is a new boy named Carlos in school. What should Tim do?

a. Let Carlos make his own friends.
b. Ask Carlos to be his friend.
